With troubling and heartbreaking current events polarizing our country – from a crippling pandemic to protests and violence stemming from the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery – the Roy A. Hunt Foundation stands firm in our belief that change is desperately needed. As leaders and members of the philanthropic community, it is our responsibility to speak up and to respond.
We acknowledge that distressing disparities exist because of race. Systemic racism and injustice plague our communities of color, and these inequalities have created deep, lasting trauma and pain. The pandemic has exposed the reality that whether we live is often determined by the color of our skin and where we reside. Central to the work of the Roy A. Hunt Foundation is our mission to support organizations that strive to improve the quality of life, with a large portion of our work taking place in underserved communities across the country. We pledge to work with others to create a path forward and offer a vision of hope for the future. We will continue to harness our resources to give voice to the voiceless and remain committed to furthering the efforts of our community partners.
The activism, energy, and outpouring of solidarity from all walks of life fuels the work that must get done and gives us hope that change is possible. A world made more just for everyone is the only world worth fighting for, and the time for difficult conversations is now. So, we are listening, broadening our understanding, and pledge to be a part of the solution in the pursuit of social justice.
